Heating Tips in Marion, NC

Losing heat is never a fun situation and is very stressful. If you’ve checked the thermostat and made sure that there isn’t a simple reason behind your heat going out, like the thermostat being out of batteries, the best thing that you can do is stay warm while you wait for heating services to arrive. Read on to find out four things that you can do when the heat goes out.

1. Layer Up

It won’t take long for the temperature to begin trending downwards. Dress in layers, and consider gloves and hats as well. Bundle up with cozy blankets in order to conserve heat.

2. Open the Blinds

If the heat goes out during the daytime, you’re lucky in that you can use the heat of the sun to keep the temperature from dropping too rapidly. Open blinds and curtains on windows that are facing the sun. The home will absorb some of this heat and stay warmer naturally.

3. Stop Air Leaks

You’ll want to do everything you can to stop the heat from escaping your home. Roll up towels and place them under door frames and on windowsills. Consider moving everyone to one room and blocking off all doorways with blankets to trap as much heat as possible.

4. Create Warmth

Turn on a portable heater if you have one, and place it in one closed-off room. If you have a fireplace, light a fire, and have everyone sit a safe but comfortable distance away to stay warm. Do anything else you can to create warmth, including cooking a hearty meal if your stove is electric and your power is still running.
